It's the most wonderful time of the year...

It really is the best time of the year- although it always gets a bit hectic this time of the year, we're still so happy to make your holiday treats! It will be Christmas soon (ahem, 20 days!) and despite all the orders pouring in, we couldn't be happier to welcome this holiday season!
Even though we prepare for the Christmas rush every year, it's hard to pinpoint the day it will start. This year, it happened overnight. When I came to work last Wednesday, the shop smelled of Christmas- gingerbread was in the oven- and, when gingerbread is in the oven, every single person who walks through the door comments on the yummy smell wafting from our front door out onto the streets.
I could spend hours telling you about all the other yummy stuff we're making this Christmas, but I'll post about that later. Right now, lets talk about cupcakes- we love making 2 feature flavours every month. Variety is the spice of life! This month, you can look forward to both gingerbread cupcakes and Forrero Rocher cupcakes when you come in. You will most definitely remember both of these super flavours from last year. The gingerbread is a regular in our December repertoire: moist, spicy and Christmas-y. With either a chocolate buttercream or a chai spice buttercream on top. Of course, the Forrero Rocher is perfect for this time of the year- the only time they advertise their delicious chocolates. A rich chocolate cake with hazelnut ganache filling and hazelnut frosting. It tastes just like the holiday chocolate we all love- but better because it's a cupcake! Mmmm... you definitely need to try both!

Exciting News!

If you are a regular follower of yummy stuff, you will notice we have unveiled a brand, spanking new website that went live last Friday. This new website has been a long time coming and we couldn't be happier with how it looks! We're jazzed about the direct links to our blog, pinterest, twitter, facebook and flickr page- we love our facebook fans and twitter followers... oh- and our flickr page is so much fun to peruse! Now these fun features are all just a click away!
Our new website also features a much more extensive cake, cookie and cupcake gallery- so you have more to look at when you need quick cake inspiration. Do make sure you click on our Flickr page often, typically  I post new pictures there every week!

Happy November!

It's here- the first day of November. I can't wait to tell you about the new flavours we are offering this month,
but first, let's talk cake. Look at this:

The 2 beauties above are my favourites from the little while. Both made for some very special gals, for 2 very different occasions. These are perfect examples of what you get when you mix a little bit of imagination with a little bit of experimentation- the possibilities for fun, unique cakes are endless!

Ok, let's get down to business- this month we're giving you pure, cozy comfort food in the form of coffee and tea! "Why, what do you mean?" (insert puzzled look and quizzical head scratch here) "how could one possibly fit all of the delicious aspects of my morning ritual into a cupcake?" Well... we did! Firstly, a chai latte cupcake(!) A delicious, richly flavoured chocolate cupcake paired with a chai spiced buttercream- and lemme tell you, that chai frosting is no joke. It's filled with cinnamon, cardamom, ginger and more! It's your fav drink from the coffee shop in a cupcake.
Get ready Earl Grey fans (I know you're out there), because we did it! We made a delicious earl grey cupcake with the most amazing bergamont flavour in a light and spongy cupcake. It goes just perfect with the swirl of heavenly frosting on top: earl grey buttercream spiked with orange zest. I can't decide which one I like better-I'm a die hard Earl Grey fan. BUT, the can't-live-without-coffee-let-alone-chai side of me is really into the Chai latte cupcake.
Swing by soon- these yummy flavours will be around until the end of the month!

Cupcakes of the month... and more exciting news!

It's official... Autumn is here- this is the best time of the year to be a baker- the market is overflowing with delicious ingredients. The bakery smells like warm Autumn spices mixed with pumpkin, apple and pear. We have tarts, cupcakes, cakes and pies all inspired by the harvest.
From the feedback I get- everyone loves these flavours too! This year we're keeping that delicious apple cupcake I told you about last month on the menu because, well, why not? It's delicious! We have also added our (famous!) pumpkin cupcake with brown butter frosting and candied nut topping to the menu- the perfect way to celebrate Thanksgiving!
In other exciting news we have discovered the best recipe in the world for chocolate vegan cupcakes- Seriously, they are fudgy, moist and so chocolatey! Here at yummy stuff, everyone agrees that buttercream just isn't buttercream without real deal butter- we have been proven wrong on this one, some customers are claiming it's the best cupcake they have ever eaten. Pass the word around... tell all your vegan friends! We have the chocolate vegan cupcakes in the shop daily.

Are you as shocked as I am that this weekend is Thanksgiving?! Relax... we've got yummy desserts galore for you to order. Pssst... order early to avoid disappointment! If you do order late, we will have lots of treats  this weekend. Our full Thanksgiving menu will be posted momentarily.

Gemma's Cake and Cupcake tower!

I think its completely necessary to show you the new "cutest thing Morag ever made"- I think that one of the reasons I love it so much is because it really celebrates the Summertime, it's not particularly for a boy or girl, or an adult or a child, it's just a party cake that makes everyone smile!
Of course, it was for a special little 1 year old girl who happened to have her party in a park... the kiddos and adults loved it!
Everything on both the cake and cupcakes is edible. Right down to the picnic blanket!
We're getting ready for fun times ahead at Yummy Stuff: stay tuned for our new website reveal soon! With the arrival of Fall later this month, comes our transition into Thanksgiving and Christmas! More yummy-ness to come soon!

We are busy- September is hands down, the month to get married. It's also the point when everyone starts migrating back to the city after a Summer of weekends spent at the cottage. School started earlier this week, and everyone is getting back into the (dreaded) routine. I bid adieu to a lazy Summer last weekend, celebrating with friends, a bonfire, and few of those delicious cocktail cupcakes we were baking up all Summer at Yummy Stuff! Perfect way to end a perfect Summer! Speaking of cupcakes, the picture above might look familiar- this September we've brought back last years ode to Autumn- an apple cupcake with a layer of bourbon caramel sauce nestled between the cupcake and the cinnamon frosting. Apple, caramel and cinnamon?! Seriously, what goes better together than that? The caramel sauce in this cupcake is so delish, it's  worthy of a small bowl and a spoon- straight!

It's 5 o'clock somewhere...

By the title of this post, I hope you have a clue as to this month's feature (or, more appropriately, features). Here's the thing, like I mentioned in July- Summertime is for cocktails! Whether they are fruity, bold, spicy or  salty, they go down best on the rocks and in the Summer.
Here's the other thing- people like different flavours, what if you don't want a Caesar? What if you want a Margarita?  Or, what if you don't want a Margarita? We hear you! Introducing: the Summer cocktail collection, brought to you by Yummy Stuff. Here's the menu:

1. Dark and Stormy (brand new and oh-so-yummy) is the perfect take on the classic cocktail- a ginger and Rum cake with a perfectly balanced hit of ginger and rum in the cream cheese buttercream, of course, there is also a zesty bit o' lime in there too!
2. Margarita. It's back, we love it, and we know you love it too! A delicious lime cake with a tequila spiked frosting and a sprinkle of flaky salt on top to make it authentic.
2. Caesar. My new fav, back for round 2- a Clamato and Vodka cupcake with horseradish cayenne buttercream topped with a sassy sprinkle of celery salt. Dangerously addictive with a little kick of spice- I  dare you to try it!

Our pantry is starting to look like an LCBO- I love it! This month, go wild with some bold flavours- they are the perfect addition to a backyard BBQ or a weekend at the cottage. We have had so much fun testing these recipes and coming up with new ideas, maybe we should do this every Summer? What do you think? What are your favourite cocktails?

PS- Don't worry, Summer is not over yet, so S'mores cupcakes are still on our shelves!

Saturday, August 4: closed
Sunday, August 5: closed
Monday, August 6th: closed

We will be back in the kitchen baking up a storm first thing on Tuesday morning. Have a fantastic long weekend!

Cupcake of the month!

Here we are, already. With the first long weekend of this glorious season behind us, all the yummy staff is looking good: well rested and a bit more glow-y than last week.

What is it about this time of year that makes me (everyone?) feel so... lazy and irresponsible? In my world, the best place to spend July and August is in a lounge chair- preferably in front of any body of water, with the following essentials within close reach: book, newspaper, another book, coffee (if it's morning time), or a mixed drink (if it's anytime after 12pm). The mixed drink thing is something I only ever want when the sun is blazing hot and thirst can't be quenched with anything else- It's not only me, as soon as the work day is over all of us flock to patio and backyard alike and throw back a few. This very reason is the inspiration for the cupcake of the month- it's inspired by a cocktail that screams "drink me when you're sizzling hot- I am REFRESHING". Are you ready for this? Because it is really exciting- we have been tweaking the recipe for a few days now and it's finally ready for unveiling. It deserves it's own paragraph and several exclamation marks:
Caesar Cupcake!!!

Huh!? How can one possibly fit all of the aspects of a delicious Caesar into a cupcake and still make it taste delish? We did it, and it is good! It's a Clamato-Vodka based cake, with all the warm spice that you expect to find in a Caesar. Topped with a Cayenne- Horseradish cream cheese frosting and sprinkled with celery salt and topped off with a celery stick.

For all those of you who are skeptics, I challenge you to try one and not love it! For those of you who are under age, we've brought back a favorite Summertime flavor: S'mores cupcake: a chocolate and graham cupcake with a toasted marshmallow frosting on top. This one is officially in the "Yummy Stuff Classics" recipe book- when people order this flavor up in the dead of winter, we know we're onto something good!

Yummy Stuff  is celebrating 4 years in Parkdale this Saturday! Wow! We simply cannot believe how fast time flies- and how much we love being a part of the Parkdale community. Y'all have been so great to us since we opened and it's been so much fun watching the 'hood take shape- so many new small businesses are bringing a whole new flavour to the community.  The next year promises to be an exciting one for us: full of growth and changes!    Since our customers are the best, our birthday wish for the big 4 is to celebrate you!

All day on Saturday, June 23rd, we will have free samples galore and offering our yummy red velvet mini cupcakes for 4 for $1.00!!

Yay! Come on down to the shop and celebrate with us!

Hello June!

Wow! Here we are again, already in the 2nd week of June- Welcome to the last month of the school year and the first month of Summer! Yay!
Before I tell you about the new feature flavor this month, I want to let you in on a secret. As I type this, our resident pie master is shredding a giant chunk of Gruy√®re cheese and cracking eggs- next to her is a big pile of local asparagus. These are the makings of something delicious and new at yummy stuff: Quiche! Yes! Yummy stuff introduced these little darlings last weekend to a lovely reception. Now, we have you covered for an easy-peasy, lazy Saturday supper. Grab a quiche and a few cupcakes for dessert and I'm quite certain your tummy will be smiling!
The new cupcake of the month is awesome- mixing the 3 greatest flavors in the world into one bite. A strawberry cupcake (with chunks of local strawberries in it) topped with vanilla and chocolate buttercream.
Neapolitan! Trust me, this one tastes just like the ice cream; except that it's cake, so it's way better!

Cupcake of the month!

With the blossoming of May comes so many other wonderful things- everyone is waking up from a long Winter sleep and planning events: baptisms, weddings and bridal showers galore! It's a fun time at Yummy Stuff because we get to make so many unique cakes, cupcakes and everything in between!

This month's cupcake is a real Southern treat- at least, that's what we have been told. It's a Hummingbird cupcake: a cake with pineapple chunks, bananas, coconut and walnuts topped with a cream cheese buttercream! This cake is said to be so delish that it makes eaters hum with delight (hence the hummingbird name). Other accounts claim that this cake is so wonderfully flavored, it's comparable to the sweet nectar that hummingbirds flock to and drink. Either way, this cupcake is aptly named!

Need I remind you that Mother's day is next Sunday?! With the promise of nice weather, might I suggest a nice bbq with dessert from Yummy Stuff? Nothing shows love for Mama like something sweet!

Happy Spring!

It's official- Spring has sprung! The air is fresh and warm, the birds are singing, the trees and flowers literally bloomed before our eyes last week. Ahhh... it's all blue skies and sunshine...
I know you didn't come here to read a rant about the weather (again). You were probably wondering why we're well into April and we have not revealed the feature cupcake for April yet.

This months cupcake is inspired by Morag's recent trip to Boston. She visited the hotel where the Boston cream pie was conceived. She ate and it was good! This month's feature flavour is Boston cream! Our cupcake has all the things you would expect in the Boston Cream- a light, spongy vanilla cake with a generous pastry cream filling, topped with chocolate ganache and chocolate sprinkles. Authentically delicious!

Happy March!

Yahoo! March is here! I don't know about you, but I'm over this season. Bring on the longer days, warm breezes and pretty flowers. Today is March 1st, which means there are 19 days left of Winter. For those of you counting, only 10 days left until the clocks move ahead and we get another glorious hour of light at the end of our days...
Although , we aren't quite ready for spring cupcake flavours, do not fret- we are offering our ever popular St. Patty's Day cupcake. That's right! The Guinness cupcake with Bailey's cream cheese buttercream frosting is back for the 3rd year in a row.
Also, I have great news- there is another cupcake gracing our shop this month. I'm going to come right out and admit that I am addicted to it. Yesterday- I ate 2. Today, I ate 2 more. Tonight, I'm going to the gym so I can reward myself with another one tomorrow. The cupcake in question is Banana split. It's a chocolate banana cupcake with pastry cream (!) filling and banana whipped cream on top (!!). Also, it's garnished with chocolate sauce and a maraschino cherry. It's DELISH!

Back for round 2!

Ahhh... February. It can be a hard month to get through- Winter is in full swing, the holidays are only a happy memory and when the sun does come out, it only hangs around for a couple of hours and then it's dark again. But wait! There's a light! Valentines day swoops in mid month and saves us. I think there is a big misconception that V-day is just for lovers- I'm here to tell you its not, it's for everyone, young and old, who ever cared about anyone. Ever. Period. Let's celebrate love this month!
This month we're featuring a cupcake from a couple of years back and, watch out, it's red hot and delicious. It's a spicy chocolate cupcake with spicy chocolate buttercream on top- if you were cold before, this one is going to warm you up! It's a super duper combo of chocolate, cinnamon, chili and more. Get 2 and make sure you give one to your love this month- whoever they are!
Check out our facebook page for lots of other V-day treats we're featuring in the shop. We're also offering discounted downtown delivery on February 14th. Call or email us for details.

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year! We are back in the kitchen after a lovely break! 2011 was a great year, filled with tons of really fun and unique cakes, cupcakes, pies and cookies- we can't wait to see what 2012 brings! Our calendar has lots of fantastic cakes to look forward to already... we would love to make something for you!

Just a note about the new cupcake of the month. Before I tell you about it, you should know that it should come with a warning- it's really yummy, so good that you'd better get 2. It's a cinnamon French toast cupcake with a delicious cinnamon-streusel topping (you can see the streusel peeking out from under that swirl of frosting below) and a maple buttercream frosting on top. The garnish on this one is a little piece of homemade cinnamon toast crunch! It's breakfast and dessert all in one and perfect with a hot cup o' joe; the cake itself is close to a coffee cake. We all think it should be your new year's resolution to try one!
