September

We are busy- September is hands down, the month to get married. It's also the point when everyone starts migrating back to the city after a Summer of weekends spent at the cottage. School started earlier this week, and everyone is getting back into the (dreaded) routine. I bid adieu to a lazy Summer last weekend, celebrating with friends, a bonfire, and few of those delicious cocktail cupcakes we were baking up all Summer at Yummy Stuff! Perfect way to end a perfect Summer! Speaking of cupcakes, the picture above might look familiar- this September we've brought back last years ode to Autumn- an apple cupcake with a layer of bourbon caramel sauce nestled between the cupcake and the cinnamon frosting. Apple, caramel and cinnamon?! Seriously, what goes better together than that? The caramel sauce in this cupcake is so delish, it's  worthy of a small bowl and a spoon- straight!

It's 5 o'clock somewhere...

By the title of this post, I hope you have a clue as to this month's feature (or, more appropriately, features). Here's the thing, like I mentioned in July- Summertime is for cocktails! Whether they are fruity, bold, spicy or  salty, they go down best on the rocks and in the Summer.
Here's the other thing- people like different flavours, what if you don't want a Caesar? What if you want a Margarita?  Or, what if you don't want a Margarita? We hear you! Introducing: the Summer cocktail collection, brought to you by Yummy Stuff. Here's the menu:

1. Dark and Stormy (brand new and oh-so-yummy) is the perfect take on the classic cocktail- a ginger and Rum cake with a perfectly balanced hit of ginger and rum in the cream cheese buttercream, of course, there is also a zesty bit o' lime in there too!
2. Margarita. It's back, we love it, and we know you love it too! A delicious lime cake with a tequila spiked frosting and a sprinkle of flaky salt on top to make it authentic.
2. Caesar. My new fav, back for round 2- a Clamato and Vodka cupcake with horseradish cayenne buttercream topped with a sassy sprinkle of celery salt. Dangerously addictive with a little kick of spice- I  dare you to try it!

Our pantry is starting to look like an LCBO- I love it! This month, go wild with some bold flavours- they are the perfect addition to a backyard BBQ or a weekend at the cottage. We have had so much fun testing these recipes and coming up with new ideas, maybe we should do this every Summer? What do you think? What are your favourite cocktails?

PS- Don't worry, Summer is not over yet, so S'mores cupcakes are still on our shelves!

Cupcake of the month!

Here we are, already. With the first long weekend of this glorious season behind us, all the yummy staff is looking good: well rested and a bit more glow-y than last week.

What is it about this time of year that makes me (everyone?) feel so... lazy and irresponsible? In my world, the best place to spend July and August is in a lounge chair- preferably in front of any body of water, with the following essentials within close reach: book, newspaper, another book, coffee (if it's morning time), or a mixed drink (if it's anytime after 12pm). The mixed drink thing is something I only ever want when the sun is blazing hot and thirst can't be quenched with anything else- It's not only me, as soon as the work day is over all of us flock to patio and backyard alike and throw back a few. This very reason is the inspiration for the cupcake of the month- it's inspired by a cocktail that screams "drink me when you're sizzling hot- I am REFRESHING". Are you ready for this? Because it is really exciting- we have been tweaking the recipe for a few days now and it's finally ready for unveiling. It deserves it's own paragraph and several exclamation marks:
Caesar Cupcake!!!

Huh!? How can one possibly fit all of the aspects of a delicious Caesar into a cupcake and still make it taste delish? We did it, and it is good! It's a Clamato-Vodka based cake, with all the warm spice that you expect to find in a Caesar. Topped with a Cayenne- Horseradish cream cheese frosting and sprinkled with celery salt and topped off with a celery stick.

For all those of you who are skeptics, I challenge you to try one and not love it! For those of you who are under age, we've brought back a favorite Summertime flavor: S'mores cupcake: a chocolate and graham cupcake with a toasted marshmallow frosting on top. This one is officially in the "Yummy Stuff Classics" recipe book- when people order this flavor up in the dead of winter, we know we're onto something good!

Hello June!

Wow! Here we are again, already in the 2nd week of June- Welcome to the last month of the school year and the first month of Summer! Yay!
Before I tell you about the new feature flavor this month, I want to let you in on a secret. As I type this, our resident pie master is shredding a giant chunk of Gruyère cheese and cracking eggs- next to her is a big pile of local asparagus. These are the makings of something delicious and new at yummy stuff: Quiche! Yes! Yummy stuff introduced these little darlings last weekend to a lovely reception. Now, we have you covered for an easy-peasy, lazy Saturday supper. Grab a quiche and a few cupcakes for dessert and I'm quite certain your tummy will be smiling!
The new cupcake of the month is awesome- mixing the 3 greatest flavors in the world into one bite. A strawberry cupcake (with chunks of local strawberries in it) topped with vanilla and chocolate buttercream.
Neapolitan! Trust me, this one tastes just like the ice cream; except that it's cake, so it's way better!

Cupcake of the month!

With the blossoming of May comes so many other wonderful things- everyone is waking up from a long Winter sleep and planning events: baptisms, weddings and bridal showers galore! It's a fun time at Yummy Stuff because we get to make so many unique cakes, cupcakes and everything in between!

This month's cupcake is a real Southern treat- at least, that's what we have been told. It's a Hummingbird cupcake: a cake with pineapple chunks, bananas, coconut and walnuts topped with a cream cheese buttercream! This cake is said to be so delish that it makes eaters hum with delight (hence the hummingbird name). Other accounts claim that this cake is so wonderfully flavored, it's comparable to the sweet nectar that hummingbirds flock to and drink. Either way, this cupcake is aptly named!

Need I remind you that Mother's day is next Sunday?! With the promise of nice weather, might I suggest a nice bbq with dessert from Yummy Stuff? Nothing shows love for Mama like something sweet!
